using 411 8As, for monitors or subs??

so i bought a pair of 411 8As. my original plan was to build a set of subs to augment a set of A7s. but after reading and asking questians. i'm thinking of just building a set of stage monitors instead. i guess the tipping point was GM telling me it was a waste of bandwidth (BW) to use them just for a 25-90 or so hz sub.
i have an extra set of (or 2) h811s and 902 8as. even a set of model 14 mantas w drivers. even a pair of 808 8As (probly need a set 511s for those), and a pair of 806 8As. could i have a decent set of monitors from some of these parts?
i thought of copying the santiagos but decided to just start from scratch. i figure start with the appropriate volume and go from there. so would a monitor work with a set of A7s? i do have two pairs, if it over powers just one pair.

Why only run them to 90 Hz ? I would build the sub cabs you intended.. Run them up to 200-300 or even up to 500 Hz..You don't have to limit them to 90 Hz is what i think GM was saying. The 411's will work great as subs with the A7's IMHO.

Stage monitors? Assuming you mean what I think you do, 411 is a bad choice. Mostly stage monitors are for vocal range. A musical instrument 12 is a better choice.

As far as subs, they work well. Since bass becomes directional at higher freqs, yes subs usually cross at 110 or lower.

Yes, they make good 'subs' for A7s as I proved back in '70, but then there was nothing like them spec wise to choose from and the available source material had no real 'sub' BW, so in reality they were 'helper' woofers.

Today though, there's much better choices and probably for less $$$ that go much lower to handle today's <10 Hz - 120 Hz BW, so to my way of thinking the 411 is a poor choice overall for just this BW; and for just down to ~25 Hz, there's dozens to choose from at a fraction of the price, so multiples combined with plenty of relatively cheap power to do true infra-bass loud enough to match the A7s becomes a viable option.

Hmm, I thought the A7s, subs were for HIFI/HT use? Monitors for what app?

well yeah, i listen to them at home. but i also like to take them out somtimes for parties and larger gatherings. and while i like the idea of infrasonics(maybe later) i'm more looking for reinforcement.

Check out the 9846 Phil. I have used mine as subwoofers, bypassing the stock passive network altogether, and i use them full range(actively biamped) as well. This works well in my home environment up to pretty serious levels. But, i wouldn't even consider partying or gigging them. GM said it best, there are other more viable options for sound reinforcement level subs.

Mine actually belonged to member Geekstar, and he had them outfitted with wheels and folding handles such that they formed their own hand trucks for moving. I have restored them and removed the hardware, actually put the wheels on my 210 cabinets as that was a more practical application for me.

You could do a lot worse with your 411's than to build 9846 clones.

OK, what’s the max H_W_D you can tolerate for 'sub' duty?
